Sam

LLB Law

Sam is studying LLB Law at Bradford and is currently in his second year. He chose the University after attending an Experience Day here.

These are his thoughts on why attending Experience Days are so important when deciding which university to choose, and why he's glad he attended one at Bradford.

It's okay to change your mind

“Attending an Experience Day here made me realise I wanted to study at Bradford.”

“I'm from Huddersfield and wanted to go to a university that I could commute to from home. I had a definite first choice in mind, but decided to look around a few other local universities before applying.

"On the day there were four members of staff available to speak to, who talked me through what to expect when studying law at degree level and explained how teaching is delivered on the course and the modules covered.

"There was also a third-year student on hand who was really enthusiastic, which helped sell the University and the course to me. To top it off, they also held a mini mock trial in the Lady Hale Courtroom, which was brilliant to watch."

I saw the Bradford Experience Day advertised online and decided to attend, and I'm so glad I did.

Bradford's true colours

“People looking to apply to university should visit a few before making a choice.”

"I think lots of people make their decision about which university they want to study at in the first year of doing their A levels, based on their predicted grades. This means they often close themselves off to other options and stick to their choice without ever visiting other universities.

"I'd highly recommend visiting a selection of universities that offer the course you want to study, as until you physically visit them, you don't really know what they have to offer. Going to see a place gives you a real feel for what studying there will be like and may sway your choice, which is what happened to me."

“What I saw on the Experience Day is true to what day-to-day life is like here.”

"I'm in my second year now and life here is exactly how I thought it would be when I attended the Experience Day. The campus is laid back and friendly, and there's an atmosphere here that makes me feel really at ease.

"The lecturers are also brilliant. They are always on hand if you need any help and are brilliant at explaining things and making complex topics easy to understand."

The law facilities are excellent too and I soon realised that Bradford was where I wanted to study.

A place for refining my craft

“Why others should choose to study law at Bradford.”

“The resources available here are fantastic and you study a variety of modules each year, so you can keep your options open when it comes to which area of law you want to specialise in after your degree. There are also structured learning plans in place and the content you study is varied and relatable.

"Criminal law is the module I've enjoyed the most so far and I've loved getting my teeth into textbooks about it. Some of the cases tend to be very interesting to read and can spark great conversations and debates concerning the offence or legislation in question. I'm also interested in contract law, which has been eye-opening."

Final thoughts

“My advice to other students considering Bradford."

"My advice to other students considering studying here is to attend an Experience Day to get a real feel for the University. You'll be able to view the facilities on offer and talk to both students and lecturers.

"Keep up to date with the University's social media channels too, and if you know someone who already studies here, speak to them to get their views on what life in Bradford is like. Checking out the course sections on the website is also really helpful as you get a real feel for the different modules each course covers.

"Doing all of these things will help you make the choice that's right for you."
