Biography

Dr. Ibrahim Khot was appointed as Assistant Professor inBiochemistry within the School of Chemistry and Biosciences in 2023. Prior tothis Ibrahim was a lecturer at the University of Leeds and completed his PostdoctoralResearch Fellowship within the Schools of Medicine and Physics & Astronomyat the University of Leeds and his research was funded by Leeds NIHR BRC, UKRIEPSRC, Wellcome Trust, The Royal Society and Bowel Cancer UK.

In 2013, he completed a BSc with First Class honours inBiomedical Sciences and in 2014, completed an MSc with Distinction in CancerPharmacology, both from the University of Bradford. He then undertook hisdoctoral studies at the University of Leeds, earning a PhD in Medicine andBiology in 2019.

Ibrahim’s research focus is pre-clinical evaluation andclinical translational of novel cancer technologies, focussing on thedevelopment of cutting-edge patient-derived cancer organoids to study theimpact of biofilms in bowel cancers and to develop personalised treatments. Hisresearch experience also extends to developing multimodal nanoparticles tofluorescently image and deliver photodynamic therapy to treat bowel cancers. This is in conjunction with the use of complex in vitro cell models of cancer, specifically three-dimensional cellcultures and state-of-the-art patient-derived organoids. Ongoingmulti-collaborative research includes the development of high-throughputmicrofluidic platforms for therapeutic screening applications and miniatureimplantable LED devices to deliver metronomic photodynamic therapies. Throughhis research career, Ibrahim has developed multiple academic and industrial collaboratorson different projects.

Outputs from Ibrahim’s research includes multiple highimpact publications, conference presentations, grant funding and a patent onwireless LED technologies.

For academic appointments, Ibrahim has lectured on differentundergraduate and postgraduate biology and medicine programmes and serves asprimary supervisor to a cohort of postgraduate research students including MD,PhD, MRes, MSc and BSc students. He also serves as internal and external universityexaminer for doctoral transfer and final thesis examinations.
