Published:

On Friday 22nd July Dr Sertip Zangana and Dr Anna Snelling from the School of Medical Sciences hosted a visit from Professor Jennifer Hixon, Chair of Health Sciences and Founding Programme Director of the Physician Assistant programme at Westfield State University, Massachusetts USA.

The visit was organised by who is establishing the Physician Associate Studies programme at the University of Bradford.

Professor Hixon toured our state-of-the-art Clinical Skills and Simulation Suites, Physiotherapy and Sports Rehabilitation Clinic, iStan Patient Simulator, Anatomy and Pathology Resource Centre, Biomedical Sciences Laboratories, Biological Anthropology Research Centre and 3-D printing facilities spread across our Faculty of Life Sciences and Faculty of Health Studies.

She was impressed with our technology-focused, environmentally friendly and community-based values and ethos.

"It was my pleasure to meet Dr Zangana and discuss the potential growth of the PA profession in the UK."

"The innovative curriculum will undoubtedly prepare the University of Bradford graduates for the challenge of Physician Associate practice. A special thanks to Dr Anna Snelling for the tour of the science and medical facilities. It is clear the University is committed to providing the cutting edge simulation and laboratory environments for advanced learning pedagogy. I look forward to collaboration with the University of Bradford in the future!"

Dr Zangana was similarly encouraged by the visit and the opportunities that lie ahead, saying: “It was an absolute pleasure to host Professor Hixon who has many decades of experience as a Physician Assistant/Associate in the United Sates and is held in high esteem in the profession both nationally and internationally."

"I am very keen to build connections with PAs around the world, and we are excited about the opportunities for collaboration and partnership with Professor Hixon and her team at Westfield State University. As a first step to this exciting venture, we are expecting her back in October as Guest Lecturer on our new and exciting PA programme. In the longer term, we hope to collaborate on research projects, exchange programmes and much more!"
