How Clearing works

Secure your place

Clearing is part of the UCAS application system. It's an opportunity for anyone without a confirmed place at university to apply for a degree course starting this September.

If you already have your exam results but you have no offers, you can use Clearing from 5 July.

If you don't get the grades you need for your conditional offers you can use Clearing from results day on 15 August.

We have published a list of all our courses in Clearing. It's worth checking this list regularly as it will be updated whenever places are filled or made available.

Once you have your exam results and have found a course you're interested in, you'll need to get in touch with us to find out if we can offer you a place for this September.

If you get an offer from us, the next step is to add your Clearing choice through Track on the UCAS website – this counts as acceptance of our offer.

Adjustment

When you get your results you may find you've done much better than expected.

You may then want to try to swap your unconditional firm choice for a different course, and you can do this using the UCAS Adjustment process. Adjustment is available from A Level results day on 15 August until 31 August.

Once you've registered for Adjustment using UCAS Track, you will have five days to find other courses you may be interested in and to get in contact with universities to discuss a new offer. You won't lose your original unconditional firm choice unless you verbally accept a new offer during Adjustment.

Adjustment is completely optional but is worth exploring if you've exceeded your predicted grades. Get in touch with our Clearing Helpline and we'll talk you through your next steps.
