Chemistry Facilities

We have a range of teaching and research laboratories across City Campus.

Centered in and around the Centre for Chemical and Structural Analysis (Analytical Centre) in the Norcroft Building, we are proud to be the hub of analytical science at the University of Bradford.

The result of a £4m investment, the Centre houses all the major analytical equipment for the University, including NMR (400 & 600 MHz), chromatography and mass-spectrometry (HPLC-MSMS, GC-MS), X-ray diffraction (powder and single crystal), vibrational spectroscopy (Raman and FTIR), electron microscopy (SEM and TEM), fluorescence modeling and thermal analysis (DSC, TGA and DMA).

Analytical Centre

The facility is managed by a dedicated team of experienced and highly skilled staff and you will access the Centre for aspects of your practical work as students in the School of Chemistry and Biosciences. The Centre provides links to industry through its Knowledge Transfer activities and is heavily involved with industrial placements and research projects in the MChem year.

Students will make use of these facilities during their studies, following practical chemistry training in the undergraduate teaching laboratories. Our teaching labs are fully equipped with fume hoods, rotary evaporators, chromatography, spectrometry and synthesis equipment to provide complete training as a practical modern chemist.

Chemistry laboratories

Our research laboratories are based across campus, although we are primarily based in the Richmond and Norcroft buildings.

Our laboratories are fully equipped with a range of modern analytical instruments including NMR, mass spectrometry, thermal analysis, crystallography, chromatography and microscopy to give the full range of chemical characterisation possible.

Teaching spaces

Chemistry is a very social subject and we teach in full lectures, group workshops and seminars, tutorials and personal tutor groups.

Our staff are all located in and around the Richmond and Norcroft building on campus.
