Summer Schools

Our assessed summer school is for students who have applied to the University of Bradford and have accepted us as their Conditional Firm (CF) or Insurance (CI) offer.

If you attend and pass the assessed summer school, you will earn 12 UCAS points towards your firm or insurance choice application at the University of Bradford.

What Will Students Study?

All students will complete the ‘Introduction to Higher Education and Learning’ module and either the ‘Introduction to Skills Development or ‘Introduction to Science’ module (dependent on their subject area of study).

Introduction to Higher Education and Learning

Students will be able to:

  • Discover more about the learning cycle and individual learning styles 
  • Find out how to reflect on, improve and apply learning
  • Understand the importance of independent learning in Higher Education
  • Structure and successfully deliver a presentation

Introduction to Skills Development

Students will be able to:

  • Understand and start to develop key skills for learning at university  (e.g. academic writing, finding resources, referencing, team/problem based learning and reflective practice)
  • Conduct a research project and produce a report
  • Develop critical thinking skills 
  • Find out about the various support for students to utilise at Bradford

Introduction to Science

Students will be able to:

  • Identify, collect and analyse scientific data in a laboratory/practical session
  • Learn to how to collect and represent data in formal reporting
  • Develop critical thinking skills
  • Produce a laboratory report


We are pleased to announce that the next Summer School will be held Monday 24th July – Friday 28th July 2017. This will be a five day academic, non-residential Summer School.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students will be eligible to apply for the Summer School once they have applied to the University of Bradford and made a firm or insurance choice for 2017
  • Places are limited, so will be allocated on a first come first served basis
  • Students must attend the whole programme that they have been allocated to, and must complete and pass the Summer School assessment to be awarded UCAS points towards their offer
  • Any courses that already award UCAS points via other programme attendance such as Applicant Experience Days are not eligible to apply for the Summer School
  • Foundation courses cannot be accepted as part of the Summer School
