Associate Professor in social and medical anthopology

Expertise: Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI), trans and LGBTQ+ issues, healthcare and social justice, sexual and reproductive health matters and the design and ethics of collaborative ethnography.

Dr Lopez is a a medical and social anthropologist specialising in barriers to healthcare, sexual health and care ethics. His research regions are principally, though not exclusive to, Mexico, Latin America and the UK.

His research specialises in sexual, reproductive health matters, and the design and ethics of collaborative ethnography. His broader interests are family life, intimate relationships and life-course in societies or populations affected by violence and/or conflict. Since 2020, he has been researching barriers to healthcare for trans and gender non-conforming adults and young people.
